Lead Pastor Transition

Pastoral transitions typically involve several key phases: preparation, selection, transition, and continuation. Each phase plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and positive experience for both the church and the pastor. Below is an outline of the four phases, and our hopeful timeline as we engage in our pastoral search.

Preparation: This phase involves the church preparing for the transition, including assessing the need for a new pastor, defining the church's values and needs, and forming a search committee. The search committee helps guide the process and ensure the church is ready for the next chapter. StAAC spent a significant amount of time working through our mission, visions and values over the previous years, allowing us to move quickly through the preparation phase.

Selection: This phase involves identifying and interviewing potential pastors who align with the church's values and needs. The search committee plays a key role in evaluating candidates and facilitating the selection process. You can hear details on the StAAC search committee, and their work up to this point in the video below.

Transition: This is the period when the new pastor is identified and begins to transition from their previous role. The Church also prepares for the new pastor to arrive, and to work through structural changes involving new staff.

Continuation: As a new pastor arrives, we enter the continuation phase. The pastor begins their role and integrates into the church community, and begins to implement strategies and achieve the goals outlined during the selection process. This phase involves ongoing ministry, evaluation, and adaptation.
